Winter Photo Session - Long Island Family Photographer

It is winter on Long Island right now.. brrrrrr.. the temps have been around 20 degrees for what feels like forever.

Have I mentioned I hate the cold?  I like it for all of a second when the first snow falls but then I am over and want summer.

In the winter it is hard to do outside portrait sessions because of how cold it is, but I begged my sister to come over today so I can practice on her family.  (practice..practice.. practice.. ) :)

Here are a few of my favorite from the day... the light was yummy... and I cannot thank my sister and her boys for coming over!!

My Knees Were Shaking..

On December 20th I photographed my first wedding.  I still cannot get over it when I say those words.

I was introduced to the bride on a quick phone call one day while my girlfriend and her were driving to Manhattan to pick out bridesmaids dresses.  They told me that they originally were not going to have a photographer because they wanted to keep it intimate but my girlfriend did a great sell of my services and the bride agreed to use me!!  (Thanks again Georgia!!)

The one I wanted to get across to her was that I had never photographed a wedding.  They only wanted me to take photographs of the ceremony because the reception was going to be a small dinner for family and friends.  Either way I was super excited.

The night before her wedding Long Island was hit with its first blizzard of the season.  28 inches to be exact.  The church was only five minutes from my house so I told her that no matter what I would be there, and I was.  I was nervous.  So very, very, very nervous. Serioulsy, my knees were shaking because I wanted to deliver photographs that captured their day.

Before I share the photographs, I want to say that the bride was stunning.  Her brother commented before she got there that she is the most amazing woman, and I have to say I agree.  And even though the snow tried to interfere with their day, all of their family and friends filled the church to see them declare their love for one another.  It was simply beautiful.

Here are some of my favorite shots from the day.

The priest was blessing her brothers Rosary Beads.. The light was super bright, overexposing the image, but I love the texture it gave to the photograph.

I begged her to freeze outside for a few photographs..I am glad I did!

Thank you K&K for allowing me to photograph such a beautiful event. It was truly an honor.

Exciting Times with Amazing Artists..

Outside of portrait work I am extremely interested in fine art photography.  I am driven by the beauty found just about everywhere you go on Long Island. It also helps center my portrait work.

In the past year I joined an online community called Long Island Photo Gallery.  It allows me to sell my fine art work (click on that link to see my images) as well as participate with some extremely talented photographers on photography trips, trade tips & advice and most important meet other photographers.

An opportunity has come up where the Long Island Photo Gallery Members were invited to exhibit their best fine art work at Empire State Studios in Oceanside, NY from 12/5/2009 - 1/31/2009.

I will be exhibiting with LIPG members Jim Cook, Debra Moody, Turtle MacDermott, Jessica Hirschmann and Joanne Henig.

If you are interested in attending, please email me at Kim(at)KimPacePhotography(dot)com, I can provide you with the details of the event.

Here are some of my images that I display in the Long Island Photo Gallery site:

Thanks to my family and friends for their continue support!

Beautiful Portraits on the beach.. - Long Island Family Photographer

Over the summer I had the opportunity to photograph this beautiful family.  I waited to post the photographs because she was sending out engagement announcements and I did not want to spoil the surprise.

I took these shots on the beach, the wind was powerful that day, the sand tried to kick our butt, however, in the end the pictures beamed love.

Here are some of my favorites from the session:
